Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 was an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first female vice-president as well as the highest ranking female official of the United America. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was an United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. From 2017 until 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for reforms to healthcare as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials during Senate hearings earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
